K-pop stars become a big hit with teens

So on a recent balmy autumn afternoon Alice is among about 200 hopefuls who show up at SM Entertainment’s talent auditions at the Don Quixote bar and club in Alexandria Va. Parents pull up to the peeling facade of the two-story Latin dance club dropping off sons and daughters — perhaps the next Beyonc?and Ushers of Korea. Five friends in knit caps and trucker hats practice break-dance moves in the parking lot fine-tuning their footwork and robot-sharp turns. A dozen contestants are gathered around a parked minivan that is playing Korean music videos on two drop-down DVD screens. Inside the Don Quixote talent scout Jung Ah Kang of SM Entertainment sits behind a folding table on the dance floor as contestants come before her in groups of five. They each take turns singing a cappella for Kang “Idol”-style. There’s a silver disco ball overhead and Spanish-language beer posters on the walls.

Boys and girls it?s that time of year again? time for Missouri to do its yearly helmet law dance. You remember that dance right?K I?ll explain. The Missouri Legislature begins its 2007 session on Wednesday Jan. Soon after a representative to the Missouri House and a Senator (or usually one in each chamber) will introduce legislation to outlaw our state?s mandatory motorcycle helmet law. Many bikers will celebrate… Funny how you can?t swing a dead cat on a paved highway in any state without seeing a speed limit sign yet you need to buy a bikers? atlas or consult Internet sites to find out if you need to wear a helmet. Maybe this session will be different. Maybe the legislature will come up with a new dance instead of the same ol? turkey trot. Maybe but I doubt it. Write back tell me what you think about helmet laws.

I haven’t been able to stop my desire for truly great music an artistry and this is why I made a 200+ mile trek to see Modest Mouse for my third time. We love Modest Mouse in Texas. I saw them for my first time in El Paso almost four years ago and I am classically trained in music and dance. I would like to suggest to young and old alike to get to a Modest Mouse Concert if you have the ability to appreciate what is real and what is truly great. And yes I would consider seeing Zeppelin again but Modest Mouse I would continue to break my balls to see because they represent what is happening NW and I salute them and applaud their recent evolution and the addition of Johhny Marr. the music is smart and they have versatility to them while keeping a unique flavor… I just don’t care for Modest Mouse. When I can hear Jordan Rivers the hottest new guyitar player in the country. Geeeeeeeeeeee give me a breakwe need Rolling Stone finding the great ones.

I am acting in one of the stories there. Apart from that I have recently signed Sameer Karnik’s Mera Bharat Mahaan. How did the Sanjay Gupta films happen? Since I had started working in films again after a break I got a call from the White Feather office. They wanted me to meet Sanjay Gupta and he offered me these films. Moreover I too have liked his films all this while due to their slick feel. So there I was on! So what are the roles that you get to play in these films? Well I can’t much about any of my new films whether the ones with Sanjay Gupta or Sameer Karnik. [Laughs] I will be killed if I divulge any information now… While in Matrubhumi there was a lot of torment factor going on in Hostel I am this sweet and simple girl who works as a relief factor. She is the one who brings in the lighter moments in the film. So do you get to sing along and dance around the trees? No nothing of that sort! The songs basically play as montages. To say that I am honored to be a part of a film that has actors like Naseeruddin Shah and Kay Kay Menon would be an understatement. It has been such a learning experience to be just a part of such a setup and I can’t explain how exciting it was to be there in the film.
