Ten Best in Dance New contemporary dance show: Toronto Dance Theatre premiered Christopher House’s multimedia Timecode Break at the Canada Dance Festival in June then thrilled a Toronto audience in November with a tightly edited computer-enhanced yet organically flowing show of dance virtuosity. Evening of ballet: For its inaugural performance in the Four Seasons Centre the National Ballet of Canada spent $700000 to refurbish its spectacular Rudolf Nureyev production of The Sleeping Beauty. The company’s dancers rose to the occasion with a superb execution of a sumptuous ballet. Female solo performance: Susanna Hood in She’s Gone Away a sustained orgasmic outburst that was as riveting as it was disturbing. Male solo performance: Spanish Flamenco dancer Ramon Martinez gave a brilliant illustration of the quality of "duende" – both dangerous and magical – tearing up the stage in Esmeralda Enrique’s show Esencia Flamenca.

This time last year Pacific Northwest Ballet was still in the throes of introducing its new artistic director Peter Boal—by now he’s been here long enough to shift the focus away from the person to the changes he’s been making with the company. The artistic roster has stayed much the same but the overall intensity has increased—PNB’s added repertory by 20th-century icons Jerome Robbins and Twyla Tharp cultivated the next gener-ation of choreographers through new commissions and reached out to younger audiences with programs like $5 Fridays. Alex Martin of BetterBiscuitDance had a great performing year onstage and in her personal life. Her dance opera The nion Twins at Hugo House last January was a charming and childlike translation of an old folktale. The TV show averaged more than 19 million viewers each week and was consistently among the top five mostwatched shows on television. Burke teamed with singer Drew Lachey and retired football player Emmitt Smith to win the second and recently concluded third seasons on “Dancing With the Stars. ” “It was exciting to dance with them” Burke says during a tour practice break. “They were two guys who wanted to win from the beginning. ” They were also two guys not known for their dance skills. However Lachey showed off some footwork as a member of 98 Degrees. And Smith certainly danced his way through many a defensive line as a running back with the Dallas Cowboys and Arizona Cardinals.

“It was amazing because I got the opportunity to travel all over the world. “Her profile remained high as the wife of former All Black Murray Mexted and owner of a Wellington modelling agency and grooming school. However Downes stepped away from the spotlight to focus on motherhood after the birth of son Hilton and later kept a low profile after the break-up of her marriage. Last year she felt ready for more exposure signed with an agent and took to the catwalk for only the second time in 15 years at Fashion Week. Late last year Downes started a relationship with another sporting great former cricketer Martin Crowe and said she was wonderfully content. Success in Dancing with the Stars reignited her passion for charity which was born as Miss Universe visiting orphanages and hospitals. This time around Downes took pleasure in deciding which organisations to support.
10 Years Straight Sobriety Powwow to celebrate decade in Gallup

A decade later the popular event has outgrown several locations and now attracts about 3000 people to the annual event which includes a gourd dance powwow and Diné shoe game. This year’s Annual NCI New Year’s Eve Sobriety Gourd Dance and Powwow will be at Gallup Junior High School 680 S. Boardman and the Diné shoe game will be at the NCI cafeteria 2405 Boyd Ave. Admission to the gourd dance or powwow is a non-perishable food item a school supply item or a new toy. Participants are asked not to bring their own chairs as bleacher seating is available. Admission to the shoe game is free… on Sunday Dec. After a supper break the powwow grand entry will be at 6 p. with a New Year’s celebration at midnight. The Diné shoe game will begin at 7 p.

Smith is a tech-savvy type with 1000 songs stored on his iPod including a heavy dose of 1970s-era funk from Parliament and Funkadelic that helps him get through his daily workouts. But he doesn’t dance. Not even a slow dance with his wife at their wedding. It conflicts with his religious beliefs. “I’ve told him that it’s the one thing in life that we’ve got to do but he won’t budge” she says.

Entitled “Loose Change” the piece will premiere during the Complexions Contemporary Ballet’s upcoming season at the Joyce Theater. The dance company is scheduled to play the Joyce Jan. Richardson will dance to “If I Had a Dime” which was written and recorded by David Ryan Harris. In describing his work Diggs said in a statement “I’ve always found the phrase ‘If I had a dime for every… Taye Diggs has appeared on Broadway in Wicked Carousel Rent and Chicago. He received an uter Critics Circle Award nomination for his performance in ff-Broadway’s The Wild Party and was recently seen in A Soldier’s Play.
