Jupiter Ray hits new Heights
Canada.com – Feb 22, 2007
Wakefield with guests Mark Wilson and Jeff Meleras. A Union of Ska Soul and ReggaeConor Kehoe and John Kulwartin used to break dance to ’70s funk from The Jimmy Castor Bunch The Fatback Band and The Spinners. “We both kind of hurt ourselves” says Kulwartin a former varsity basketball player. While on the mend from a torn ligament he picked up the bass and played in The Elastiks before forming The Uptown Strugglers with Kehoe and a handful of others just half a year ago. They play roots-rock-reggae with a touch of ska and soul. Ben Harris of Clock Strikes Music plays with the band occasionally kicking up the reggae quotient.

If only you could decode their strange language of fluid shifts and deft gestures you think you would know everything about their lives. But this piece isn’t about everything; it’s about rupture and the luminous mournful shards that come after. The new “Plum House (A Cartoon)” might have been set just before the break. The collective energy of Ms. Madden Laurel Dugan Juliette Mapp Perrine Ploneis and Derry Swan would be too much for most dwellings let alone Dan De Prenger’s tiny screen-and-plywood structure. Luckily it has only two walls. Various inscrutable games and tasks unspool and the work’s initial madcap mood dissipates until it is more memory than presence.

(22-FEB-07) Miami Herald (Miami FL). 22–Perhaps you’re not a dance fan. Maybe you roll your eyes at the avant-garde or worry you won’t get it. Could be you think a guy who’s 87 couldn’t produce anything rel… Could be you think a guy who’s 87 couldn’t produce anything relevant to your much younger more up-to-date 20- or 30- or 40 or 50- or 60-something-year-old self. From the 1950s and the break with abstract expressionism up to the deluge of information in our lives right now Cunningham’s dances have captured what was happening — and what will happen. It all comes from how he looks at things. Cunningham often says that dance — making it or watching it — is about seeing. “In the simplest way just look and listen” he says. Now that arthritis has rendered him largely immobile he spends even more time observing absorbing images and ideas and recycling them in surprising ways.
Bald Britney needs a break

In a video circulated on the Internet Spear seems disoriented and confused as she denies that heavy partying has negatively impacted her life. She is shown trying to convince Federline that time travel is real. In November shortly after her breakup with Federline Spears was seen on the dance-club circuit with Paris Hilton and photographed without panties by several paparazzi. The hair-shearing episode has put her back in the news. Whether we want to know about it or not. We don’t write to condemn her nor to pile onto her mountain of woes for the sake of cheap entertainment. Even late-night comedian Craig Ferguson told viewers Monday that he didn’t have the heart to make jokes about Spears’ hair salon episode pointing to her vulnerability… Even late-night comedian Craig Ferguson told viewers Monday that he didn’t have the heart to make jokes about Spears’ hair salon episode pointing to her vulnerability. We just wish she’d take stock of her childhood stardom her later incredible success as a singer her increasing difficulties coping with a fishbowl existence the needs of her two children and the existence of a huge reservoir of good will among fans. Take stock and take a break. More than just checking in to a rehab center too. That’s simply fashionable. Britney you don’t need the money. You don’t need the attention.
