“We just were going through the day-to-day motions” the former wife of legendary hoofer Honi Coles asserts. “I’m the artistic director and my mind was on what we were going to be doing. Everyone agrees that her mind is always on the dance — the grandmother of two still teaches classes at Queens College which gave her an honorary doctorate. “I never finished the eighth grade” she says with a youthful giggle. “I got in the back door. Hays on the other hand is dealing with another challenge. During the making of “Been Rich All My Life” this great-grandmother fell down the steps to the subway… That’s because she worked — on the Alaska pipeline as a welder during World War II driving a taxi. “What I did I tried to do well” Ray declares adding that dancing topped the list except for a 10-year marriage with “a gentleman. Right now the Silver Belles are on a break during the wintery months. But the spring will bring San Diego and Philadelphia among other performances. And they hope to build a fan base for their documentary. Therein lies its powerful message. “Keep movin’” says Ellis.

The Fall had already happened. Somehow Kelly slipped N HER WAY to the dance floor and ended up the ground. Within a few seconds she was standing up again trying to shake it off. bviously there was more concern than usual given her state but she felt K she said. And then she kicked it like a true pregnant cowgirl. Without so much as a yeehaw she was stepping and grapevining and twisting with the rest of us (which isn’t to say much but still impressive)When we sat down for a break she said her foot was bugging her but still insisted we stay… bviously there was more concern than usual given her state but she felt K she said. This was way better than I expected. By the time we left the bar (just about the time the UW students were stumbling in) she was limping. And now she sits beside me crutches-bound for two weeks (and armed with an embarrassing story about having to tell her doctor she fell while out at a Country Western Bar Line Dancing).

Even nominees for the biggest awards in show business. “It’s my job to relax you” the daytime talk show host told them during her scarcast monologue. “To put your mind at ease and make you forget that this is a make-or-break night for you. I cannot imagine what you people are going through!” She smiled an even brighter smile. “You shouldn’t worry about that. ” Teasing but unassuming DeGeneres is always pleasant company as she was Sunday night hosting The 79th Annual Academy Awards on ABC. Like her the evening was easygoing comfortable and reliably unsurprising… Film favourites Will Ferrell Jack Black and John C. Reilly did a funny song-and-dance number lamenting that as Ferrell crooned “a comedian at the scars is the saddest man of all: Your movies may make millions but your name they’ll never call”. The 12-member modern-dance troupe Pilobolus was delightful in cameo appearances seen in silhouette magically forming appropriate shapes like the scar statuette the van in Little Miss Sunshine and even snakes on a plane. During the evening DeGeneres made humorous passes through the hall to speak to some of the luminaries including soon-to-be-winner Martin Scorsese (to whom she gave a script she described as a cross between Goodfellas and Big Momma’s House) and Clint Eastwood (with whom she posed in a snapshot taken by nearby Steven Spielberg for her to post she said on her MySpace social networking page). The scarcast almost ground to a halt during a back-and-forth session when film composer Ennio Morricone received a lifetime achievement scar and delivered his remarks in Italian which presenter Clint Eastwood dutifully translated. It ate up three full minutes. It seemed so much longer.

It’s not difficult to imagine the Target customer who comes in to pick up a pair of jeans and a top leaving with milk eggs and ingredients for tonight’s dinner — and vice versa. Target while competing on price with rival Wal-Mart (WMT) continues to differentiate itself from the retail giant. The company plans to introduce merchandise this year that cater to a more upscale clientele with offerings such as yoga and dance wear and Burt’s Bees health and beauty products. The NumbersTarget squeezed out a 19-basis-point improvement in gross margin in the fourth quarter. n the call the company’s management said not to expect much margin improvement in the coming year because of the impact of food sales. Management may however be conservative and able to eke out a few points of improvement. Credit revenue growth is expected to exhibit continued strength though it may be difficult to match last year’s blistering growth rate… After more than doubling between March 2003 and July 2005 the stock carved out a base until it broke out of that range in January of this year. With Target trading near support at $60 this appears to be a low-risk entry point. A meaningful break of support at 60 could indicate a significant correction. New investors may want to consider scaling in with a small investment now and wait to see how the stock handles the selloff. That way if Tuesday’s action was an anomaly and the bull ride continues investors will have some exposure. n the other hand if Tuesday truly was the beginning of the end of the bull investors will have some bullets in the chamber to pick up shares of a best-of-breed discount retailer at lower prices. It appears they were wrong. With 20000 advance copy sales and local Tejano music stations plugging the album that’s in stores today the old Mazz magic is still working — even if one half of the musical duo is doing time. “Joe Lopez Jimmy Gonzalez y Grupo Mazz: The Last Dance Mazz Live Reunion” was recorded before Lopez was on trial for a sexual assault charge involving a teenage relative. His conviction earned him a 20-year sentence that he’s now appealing. For fans it’s still about the music and this album brings it all back.
