Editor-At-Large: So there I was dancing for Liz the biggest by three…
Independent – Mar 11, 2007
I learnt it was being filmed for the couple’s official wedding magazine and photographed for Hello! which has paid a fortune for the rights to the whole event. I began to get anxious. Not only was I going to be dancing in front of dozens of Indian guests who would have far higher standards than the British contingent but getting everyone together to rehearse in a hotel room in Mumbai was never going to be easy when parties didn’t end till three in the morning and there was sightseeing and shopping to be done. My bra top would have fitted an eight-year-old child and had to be sent back to the tailors. I tripped over my heavily embroidered skirt and nearly knocked out Trinny Woodall by twirling my scarf over my head. The sari I planned to wear to the Mehendi was another problem. The top wouldn’t get past my elbow and so another had to be made… No time to rehearse as I summoned assistance to get me into my sari (which I sewed on to my underwear to prevent embarrassing moments) to attend the Mehendi. By now I was carrying around little scraps of paper in my bag decorated with a series of diagrams my annotations of the routine. Given a break in the conversation I would flap my hands up and down mentally going through the moves. I must have looked like a demented Worzel Gummidge. n the day of the Sangeet I left Jodhpur early for the two-hour drive through the desert to historic Nagaur Fort. Now I had to contend with the reality of a bare stone floor manoeuvring myself around columns and bending to the floor to pick up flower petals. In the sweltering heat we went through our paces for a final hour of practice watched by bemused workmen setting out the tables and rigging up the lighting.

Dance Preview: Rhoden premiere embraces jazz vibe
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette – Pittsburgh Post Gazette – Mar 11, 2007
Rhoden is gaining a grass-roots popularity with ballet companies in the hunt for something different. He made his reputation with Complexions an edgy contemporary ballet group that has its roots in New York. Noted American dancer Desmond Richardson has shared the directorial duties from the start but the company’s cool vibe extends to stars such as Taye Diggs (Broadway’s “Rent” and the NBC series “Day Break”) who recently took a choreographic turn with company plus Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and New York City Ballet. As Rhoden’s reputation grew he added the Joffrey Ballet and Miami City Ballet and became resident choreographer at North Carolina Dance Theatre. The “Smoke ‘n’ Roses” premiere at the Byham Theater this week will be PBT’s fifth Rhoden work to which the company will add his “Carmina Burana” next year the largest Rhoden repertoire of any American company outside his own. “Smoke ‘n’ Roses” will match PBT’s athletic wiles with well-known Pittsburgh songstress Etta Cox. She submitted a list of favorite songs some for which she was known and others for which she would like to be known… Rhoden is gaining a grass-roots popularity with ballet companies in the hunt for something different. Personal Column: Waiting in the wings
Independent – Mar 11, 2007
Understudies have to know the part inside out and it’s difficult because you don’t get as many opportunities to practise on stage. I watched from the side of the stage and tried to remember everything. After about six months the lead hurt her ankle and couldn’t dance and then the first understudy got sick. I was petrified when I was told but so excited. I was amazed when I went on. You can’t see the audience you can just feel them.
