Kara and her mom signed up for tap dance lessons at some point and somewhere along the way parlayed that into a few Salsa lessons. That would be fine. I don’t begrudge anyone their hobbies.

I’m a dreadful dancer but with a few dozen or so little glasses of rebujito inside me I can manage not to make a total idiot of myself. I even quite enjoy it – if you smile they won’t mind how bad you are as long as you’re having fun. It’s quite acceptable for women to dance together and a sympathetic female will teach you by feeding you each move. This way you can at least get through the first of the four parts of a Sevillano dance. Even better invest in some classes – about eight to 10 sessions should have you reasonably well-prepared and feeling confident. The steps aren’t difficult but when four couples are sharing a two-square-metre uneven dance floor a mistake could cause injury as well as embarrassment. Insider’s tip: wear a floor-length dress and trainers – no-one will see them and you’ll be much more comfortable… That’s when the night-time feriantes start to appear. As the lights come on at dusk especially around the spectacular entrance arch the place takes on a timeless period feel. Casetas with live music – a big band on a stage but even better a few guys with guitars in the corner of the caseta’s front area – have a particular energy and spontaneous singing and hand-clapping will often break out in a crescendo of excitement. You’ll feel like a real insider a local if you can stroll round the Feria visiting friends in their casetas. And once you’ve admitted defeat thanks to an efficient all-night shuttle bus service getting home doesn’t take too long or cost too much. Then you put your dress in the washing machine go to bed get up a few hours later and it’s time to go back and do it all again.

In terms of cutting-edge music we prefer to lead than follow” says Lawrence. Resident DJ at Caf?el Mar Ibiza Jose Padilla popularised ambient music and started selecting tracks for the hugely popular Caf?el Mar compilations. At The Big Chill Padilla delivered dance beats tempered with ambient vibes giving his audience more than just sundown music. Besides contributing to the bar’s eponymous label the Barcelonian has also seen two album releases namely Souvenir in 1998 and Navigator in 2001. While Padilla opted for dance Notting Hill DJ Norman Jay characteristically belted out classics and newer tracks that he probably unearthed in tiny record stores. Jay didn’t restrict himself to any singular genre and often describes himself as a house music DJ often resorting to ’70s and ’80s soul and jazz funk. Jay’s works has been described by BBC as “the cream of ’70s disco with the latest club anthems” and he lived up to that reputation by the sea in Goa too… Jay didn’t restrict himself to any singular genre and often describes himself as a house music DJ often resorting to ’70s and ’80s soul and jazz funk. In 1986 computer programmer Matt Black and ex art teacher Jonathan More mixed Jungle Book’s King of the Swingers with the break from James Brown’s Funky Drummer as their first single Say Kids What time is it? giving London’s dance culture a whole new identity. Twenty-one years later Goa was treated to a live-atmospheric sound and visual treat when ColdCut unleashed I Wanna Be With You a mix of the classic Jungle Book oldie. With visuals from the Disney original they had the crowd swinging. And the legends at the festival were not missed either. In spite of the DJs with their cool mixing gear and multiple keyboard loops Bob Marley and George Harrison lent their originals to steal the show.
