Watching the Bride’s upturned eyes at the end as she pauses before following her husband inside you get a sense of the great space and freedom embodied in America’s idea about itself. It’s a marvel that Graham was able to break through to this space in movement terms forging a correspondingly new country of dance and it’s good to be reminded especially in 2007 that this country remains even if only in a backward glance.

“The talent was excellent last year” said Darin Williamson teen services librarian who is organizing the event and acting as master of ceremonies for the fourth year in a row. Four acts have signed up for “So You Think You Can Dance” and three or four acts have enrolled for the other shows. “We expect to get about 10 acts for each category” Williamson said. A panel of three judges will select winners at each show. Everyone who participates will win a gift certificate and the top finisher each night will receive a $50 gift certificate. Currently he is a member of SalsaMania Dance Co which is rated number three in the world for its high power performances. As for the changeover from the statuesque postures of Bharatanatyam to the twirls and tosses of Salsa (its name comes from the Spanish for sauce!) Giju says it was not difficult. “I was able to break out of that mould even when I was in India” he explains citing his college days when performed Bollywood-style dances.
