Sacramento Bee – Jul 25, 2007
There isn’t a lot of down time. Q: You have an affiliation with the Dance Gallery 2 in Roseville. Is that where you got rolling with the break dancing?A: I lived at the studio the last few years but (owners) Miss Lucy and Doug (McLemore) probably could tell you I have a hard time showing up for class! Yes that’s where I did most of the hip-hop stuff and I am learning a lot about choreography. Q: Judge Nigel Lythgoe mentioned you being from Sacramento last week. Your Roseville fans would like to claim you as their own. What do you think?A: I was born in Sacramento and my family moved to Roseville. So I guess I’m from both cities.

MTV.com – Jul 25, 2007
After all the “announcement” that they were working with Eno didn’t come via some wordy press release but rather through an offhand comment the producer made in a BBC Radio interview back in February (see. And that news came on the heels of the announcement that the band wasn’t working on an album at all — rather Coldplay were settling in to enjoy “a much-deserved break” according to a spokesperson for their label Capitol (see. And for their upcoming album they’re even keeping their travel subtle: trekking from church to church recording on the fly. It’s a manner somewhat unbecoming for one of the biggest rock acts in the world and its mega-famous producer but according to the post everyone seems to be enjoying the whole “under-the-radar” shtick. “We’ve been traveling light — an acoustic guitar a couple of mics a laptop and some headphones… They’re laying down backing vocals. Brian often joins them: group singing is one of his greatest joys. Funny we always pegged Eno for more of a song-and-dance man. Anyway earlier posts on Coldplay’s site also indicate that Eno’s longtime collaborator Markus Dravs is also along for the ride and that the band has been working on 25 “pieces” of music for the new album. But there’s still no release date or title and Capitol had no additional information about the project when contacted by MTV News.

Perhaps it’s the fact that we instead have other performances on our minds — our own. I remember clearly the night of September 8 1998 attending a high school dance in our local gymnasium. Instead of dancing with a girl or sitting in a chair acting as if I were too good to be dancing with a girl I had snuck off with a few friends to Mrs. Lanpher’s science classroom. Here the television was tuned to a baseball game and here was where I saw Mark McGwire become the single-season home run king. I’ll always remember that moment with clarity so significant was that moment in my adolescent mind. But I doubt I will have a similar etching of history this time around… He recalled his first game as a manager more than 20 years ago and the adrenaline rush delivered when his team won on a walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth. He said this passion has never subsided. For now though Mac will be doing some scouting for the Giants taking a break from coaching. But I’m sure one day he will again be called upon for his services and regain the reigns as skipper. Garrett Broshuis is a pitcher in the Giants’ organization for the Connecticut Defenders. com>gbroshuis@sportingnews.

Detroit Metro Times – Jul 25, 2007
Boogie Fever in Ferndale is my introduction to an unfamiliar phenomenon of nightclubs for adults or rather club nights for the life-begins-at-40 set. Here myriad middle-agers dance self-assuredly to the music of their generation most with no concern for “club attire” up-to-the-moment fashion or visible cellulite. It’s a welcome break from the coked up Top-40′d self-conscious runway vibe that pollutes many popular dance clubs. “The dancing leads me here” shouts a sweaty middle-aged schoolteacher who orders an armful of bottled waters. In front of us talented stepsters marry ballroom dancing and “the Jitterbug” with shocking agility. ne woman wears running shoes under a halter dress; her partner’s attire suggests he’s straight out of the office. Inspired by this flush-faced couple I venture into the sea of arms swaying to “Dancing Queen” and find myself singing along.
Teens get kick out of code camp
Columbus Dispatch – Jul 25, 2007
Stripped down to their computer-code skeletons video games seem as exciting as a phonebook. Still before long five hio teenagers found the fun in an apparently endless line of numbersletters and symbols. “It turns out to be pretty dang sweet” said 15-year-old Richard Georgeoff taking a break froma laptop at the hio Supercomputer Center off Kinnear Road. The Powell student is participating in the Game Programming and Motion Capture project at thecenter’s Summer Institute — an intensive two-week “camp” for gifted freshmen and sophomores inhigh school. The goal: Create a video game by the end of the program on Saturday. During a Monday morning lab Georgeoff adjusted the speed and turning radius of his video-gamecharacter — through a process that involved altering specific elements within the game code. The character sprinted across the virtual terrain like the Tasmanian Devil in a Looney Tunescartoon… “I wanted to make something that I could call my own” he said. The opportunity to be creative also appealed to Xiaojing Wu at age 14 the youngest in theclass. Wu a sophomore-to-be at Coffman plays Dance Dance Revolution when she isn’t reading J. Rowling or Dan Brown. “Sometimes it can be really funny when you mess up the programming and things go haywire” shesaid with a laugh. “Even the mistakes are fun.
