"He was extremely bright and he liked to break dance and do the moonwalk all the time" Prouty told The regonian newspaper. "What a waste because he really was a wonderful boy. As an adult he would’ve added a lot to this or any other community where he landed. He was there for everybody whenever they were in need. Ashford's debut as director-choreographer places him in the very American tradition of Tommy Tune and the late Michael Bennett not to mention Susan Stroman and Jerry Mitchell – the last of whom can be found on a separate floor of the south London rehearsal studio currently hosting Ashford and his cast. (Mitchell is here to choreograph the British premiere of the 2002 musical “Hairspray” since which time he like Ashford has added directing to his résumé. The three became good friends inside the house and bonded so well even with the scheming presence of Wendy Valdes and her very defensive boyfriend Bruce Quebral.
