ABC News: Footworkin’: Hope in an Unlikely Form
ABC News – Oct 16, 2007
And now this unusual dance a mixture of break dancing African dance and tap that also incorporates facial features has made its way from the streets to the schools. “We said ‘How can we help our community?” said Andre Minto a 22-year-old teacher’s assistant at an inner-city school in Chicago. “And a couple of ways we thought we could do that was to be building character with youth. And we said ‘Hey footworkin’ is a great way to do that ? It’s telling a story with your body. Minto said the dance has made a big impact on some of his students.

Review: LEVYdance’s ‘Bone Lines’ bites off more than it…
San Francisco Chronicle – Oct 16, 2007
In his 2002 duet “Falling After Too” two men manipulate each other’s knees shoulders and hips with relentlessly deflective intimacy. When at last they knock chests but their arms flail past each other unable to hug you feel the oomph of that tragedy like a statement of the human condition. Small wonder then that Bay Area dance watchers have been waiting for Levy to break out in a big way. His company’s fifth annual home performances on Friday and Saturday seemed designed to do it. The crowning premiere “Bone Lines” had all the trappings of the next big step: a bigger-than-usual venue at the Jewish Community Center’s Kanbar Hall costumes by haute couture designer Colleen Quen set by sculptor Rick Lee and a commissioned score by Keeril Makan recorded by the Kronos Quartet. But this proved a case of getting too much too fast. Levy’s solemn dance for four looked overwhelmed by all these elements with movement serving merely as glue to keep it all together.

Seattle Post Intelligencer – Oct 16, 2007
He ran a guy over on that 38-yard run. ther than that one dance — and I went crazy on on that — he only did that one time. Brandon Johnson I thought showed up pretty good… I don’t know why I know why — we made a lot of stupid mistakes. We’ve looked at it a thousand times and I think we play not to lose instead of playing to win. You think playing not to lose is the second-half issue once you’re in a game at the break?Lappano: They need to believe in themselves and what we’re doing and I think we’ll be fine. Don’t let people outside put things in your head that are going to make you start doubting yourself and what we’re doing. That’s really important because that’s kind of what is going on. They can’t second-guess themselves.

Cleveland leads the American League Championship Series by two games to one. In the celebration in the clubhouse afterward the rookie shortstop Troy Tulowitzki led children of older players in a clockwise snake dance circling the big room in front of the lockers and spraying as many beverages as were sprayed his way. If it all sounds confusingly wild wait until Wray and Cherry try zipping their way out of a medical wing gone very very wrong. It’s satisfyingly juicy and not for the faint of heart. After a quick break for some more trailers — Eli Roth’s horror spoof Thanksgiving is happily and disgustingly depraved — we get to Tarantino’s feature a meal of muscle car mayhem called Death Proof. In ten words or less homicidal maniac (Kurt Russell) kills innocent girls via car crashes. But with this simple construct Tarantino creates something more a wicked study in setup and payoff that had preview attendees screaming with delight. Death Proof begins like its predecessor with funky period music and missing frames. But at the midway point something changes… If Tarantino and Rodriguez were hoping to make a film better than the poster they exceeded their own expectations. The first part of Grindhouse Tarantino’s Death Proof arrives on DVD with extras on casting the various stars (with special attention paid to Zoe Bell) and a few outtakes. More importantly the DVD restores some of the deleted material ( the notorious "reel missing" moment) which includes a Vanessa Ferlito lap dance among other lascivious moments. Planet Terror arrives on in its own two-disc DVD along with a commentary track and an audience reaction track (if you like your movies with lots of cheering). A second disc includes Rodriguez’s patented 10-Minute Film School plus multiple making-of featurettes. Sadly in this version of Terror the missing reel has remained missing.
