Four dancers acted as puppet masters for four others who sat in chairs as the marionettes. In the routine the marionettes free themselves of the puppet masters once they have a hold of the Bible and a dancing battle begins between the two groups for control over the Bible. After the two groups face off in break dance battles all eight dancers grab hold of the Bible at the end ? symbolizing the group serving God together Derek said. ?I?m praising the Lord for the Battle Breakers at the Y? Derek said after practicing the routine. ?Whatever you have to do to get out of the streets. ?For many of the kids the group is a means for entertainment and community service said Sheila Herron the outreach wellness instructor at the Family Center YMCA. Herron who led hip-hop aerobics at the Kirk Family YMCA helped organize the Battle Breakers and works as a choreographer.

There’s tremendous energy in How She Move so much that the audience can’t help but be swept up. And unlike other movies about stepping some of the dancers even break into a smile occasionally making the film considerably lighter than many of its predecessors. The struggling-against-the-odds story has been done thousands of times before and everything culminates in a big-time dance contest with an outcome that’s been preordained since the movie’s opening scene. Still with energy and heart to burn How She Move is one tinderbox of a movie. But definitely smokin’.
