Darts: Belfast set to break world record: Hearn
Belfast Telegraph – Jan 29, 2008
The Premier League of darts – Hearn’s creation – kicks off a year of sell-out shows in Glasgow on Thursday night and for the first time Belfast is part of the darts circus which has an ever growing band of followers. April 24 is the date at the Odyssey Arena and only a few tickets remain according to Hearn who has promoted numerous boxing shows in Belfast. " There are a few tickets left but as things stand Belfast is going to break the world record for a live darts audience which is 5300 in Sheffield. "It shows the popularity of the sport now that there is such demand in a place we haven’t been to before. "It’ll be a great night with the best players in the world there. "So did Hearn believe that it would have become so popular and drawn viewing figures that surprised the top men at Sky Sports and ITV?"I wish I was that clever! I knew there was an opportunity for growth but the way the public have responded over the past five years has been tremendous" added Hearn. "It reminds me of the way we got snooker going and the way it just took off but I’m determined not to make the same mistakes I did then… "But now you have darts players who are earning £200000 or £300000 a year with the top stars even earning over a million. "And the fans who come know they’re going to get value for money. "They can go and have a drink have a pint have a dance watch some great darts and go home happy. It’s the place to be now and you can see that because whereas before it was mainly over 40s now we have the 25-35 bracket. Stepping back from the violence
Denver Post – Jan 29, 2008
The Uganda-set film goes for all kinds of lovely “Out of Africa”-style visuals and snazzy editing effects. Certain scenes are impressionistically restaged versions of earlier events usually with atmospheric conditions chosen to enhance the desired mood. But you know what? Who cares? The core of this week’s African catastrophe documentary is so simultaneously heartbreaking and uplifting you only want to thank the Fines for making it as engaging as they have.
