Review | Chris Brown and Bow Wow
Columbus Dispatch – Jan 31, 2008
Thoughhis set didn’t match the Chippendales extravaganza of Brown’s cavalcade Bow Wow spent as much timeasking “Where the ladies of Columbus at” as he did rapping about the ladies. Really though on a night when Bow Wow proclaims “every girl in the house is my girlfriend” andthen rips his tank-top undershirt from collar to tail before tossing it into the audience youpretty much know what you’re in for. Bow Wow did get serious for a moment toward the end of his set (before joining Brown later tocap the night with an ’80s-style break dance “battle”). Before the lights came up the 20-year-old born Shad Moss reminded everyone that even thoughhe lives in suburban Atlanta Columbus is still dear to his hip-hop heart: “Look here” he said “Idon’t care what the haters say. I got the 6-1-4 tattooed on my arm! I’m Ohio to the death! I’m Columbus to the death! Don’t never forget it!”.

Toronto Dance Theater – Dance – Review – New York Times
New York Times – Jan 31, 2008
But sometimes the creative act can unwittingly reinforce the potential dangers lurking in nondemocratic societies which most dance companies are. Did no member of Toronto Dance Theater for example stand up to the company’s artistic director Christopher House and tell him that his “Timecode Break” was a dull nightmare of a piece? The 65-minute exercise had its United States premiere on Tuesday at the Joyce Theater; one can only wonder how many more audiences must suffer. Billed as a dance for the 21st century the ensemble work unfolds on the stage and the screen with the dancers featured both live and in Nico Stagias’s video seen on a large monitor mounted on the back wall. The filmed images run from out-of-focus water passages to dancers doing various things like contorting their faces staring off into space and performing Mr. House’s choreography. They are sometimes in skivvies sometimes in Jeremy Laing’s loose white costumes resembling cut-off long underwear.

Iraqis mock US soldiers and themselves on You Tube
Namibian – Jan 31, 2008
The walkie-talkie strapped near her shoulder crackles and she bends her head towards it to answer. She speaks for a minute or two bending her head forward each time she answers. "Shaar (hair)" the soldiers say suggestively enticing her to break out into a sensual Iraqi dance during which unveiled women throw their heads forward to send their hair flying upwards. Many videos show male US soldiers dancing clumsily with their Iraqi counterparts or with people in the streets. One hilarious minute-long segment captures an American military policeman complete with flak jacket and weapon spinning round and round while a group of Iraqi policemen cheer him on. With dancing in public such an integral part of Iraqi culture it is little wonder that the funnier side of this practice has been captured on video. People fall lurch into one another and in one featuring Iraqi policemen they even drop their trousers.
