7-AAA Tourney: Gainesville Davis dance on (2/13)
Access North Georgia – Feb 13, 2008
After allowing North Hall’s 3-point shooters plenty of space in the first half the Red Elephants clamped down over the final eight minutes forcing the Trojans (17-8) inside where Gainesville’s athletic post players harassed North Hall into missed shots. And when they missed Gainesville rebounded as the Red Elephants out-rebounded the Trojans 32-20. Meanwhile Gainesville’s fast-break offense caught-fire as George Manomano (nine points) and Blake Sims (six points) combined for 15 points during the quarter — the Red Elephants totaled 25 during the period. Manomano buried a 3-pointer with 6:38 remaining to pull the Red Elephants within 43-42. Just seconds later the senior stole the ball and fed Sims whose lay-in gave Gainesville it’s first lead of the contest with 6:06 remaining — it was a lead they never lost. Sinking just enough free throws — while North Hall missed a few of its own — the Red Elephants stayed in front despite a late 3-pointer from Trojans senior Josh Haymore who cut Gainesville’s advantage to 57-54 with 23 seconds remaining.

Try a pub-crawl for Valentine’s
Denver Post – Feb 13, 2008
One of the best Valentine’s Days I’ve ever had involved a pub-crawl. My then- boyfriend took me from jazz bar to jazz bar complete with a guessing game about our next destination. It was a welcome break from the sea of two-tops and lame fixed-price menus and for him a thoughtful solution to his serious aversion to any sort of planning (i. making a dinner reservation). I’ve since upgraded to a man who is pleasantly capable of calling ahead but I am in the mood for another break from restaurants this year. I want to hunt for wine’s sexiest bottling — sparkling rose… You could hit nearly any of the clubs that line Larimer Market and the ally in between for splits of Pommery’s POP Rose but Mynt with its seductive pink couches and larger-than-life paintings of red-lipsticked women seems as if it was designed for the hip version of Valentine’s Day. If the club remixes put you in the mood to dance ask the flirtatious bartenders to substitute a straw for your flute and work off that dessert as Pommery intended — sipping champagne straight from the little pink bottle. The inviting leather banquettes familiar exposed brick walls and forgivingly dark lighting make The Lure a great place to turn any night into morning.
9 reasons Jackson masterpiece remains a thriller
AZ Central.com – Feb 13, 2008
The song was adequately groovy — funked-out beat lyrics seemingly lifted from some little kid’s “scary storybook” — but the video was legendary: Costing $800000 the 14-minute mini-film was the most expensive video of its time. Back then it was over the top; to today’s viewer jaded by bloated-budget videos it still looks epic — and deliciously campier than ever. That dialogue (“I’m not like other guys”)! That Vincent Price rap interlude! And most of all those choreographed zombies dancing in a style that — thanks to Usher Ne-Yo and Chris Brown — still gets its close-up on MTV. (Baz Dreisinger) — “Beat It”: A secret not closely guarded: The uncredited guitarist who whipped out the fluttering squealing solo on this ode to macho cowardice was Eddie Van Halen whose extracurriculars ranked among the provocations for singer David Lee Roth’s 1985 departure from the megalithic rock band Van Halen. The aerodynamic metal flight pumped crossover fuel that would boost the success of “Thriller” — a gimmick Jackson would flog later with spots from Slash and Carlos Santana. ” (Greg Burk) — “Billie Jean”: Twenty-five years later “Thriller’s” central chamber has lost none of its fevered mystery… A template for new jack swing and hip-hop soul ballads “Human Nature” is comparatively slower and more intimate than “Thriller’s” other songs. “If this town is just an apple let me take a bite” quivers Jackson’s voice over a cascading synthesizer and percolating bass line. Though written by John Bettis and Steve Porcaro of Toto the lyrics resonate with Jackson’s yearning to break free from his tower of celebrity and mingle with young people in a “city that winks its sleepless eye. ” (Serena Kim) — “P. (Pretty Young Thing)”: It’s all about the chipmunk.
