” Together Rhoden and Richardson founded Complexions 12 years ago and are its joint artistic directors. There are seven dances in the show – a five-piece middle section book-ended by Dear Frederic a tribute to F. Chopin and his music and by a salute to the multi-faceted vocal magic of jazz-singer Nina Simone in Pretty Gritty Suite. The other pieces in the middle are Gone set to music sung by that priestess of Gospel Odetta Gravity Moody Booty Blues and Lux all danced by various members of the company. Rhoden’s choreography described as molten lava embraces the city from fashion to fusion in a dance language that melds classical with pop and modern with break-dance and hip-hop. Rhoden and Richardson were both principal dancers with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and both have received that company’s Apex Award (as well as many others) for their contribution to dance. Rhoden has created some 60 ballets for Complexions and for other US companies including the Joffrey and New York City Ballets. He’s also created choreographies for Prince and Cirque de Soleil. Richardson has danced with the Frankfurt Ballet American Ballet Theater on Broadway and in film.

In other "Danc ing" news yester day professional ballroom hoofer Maksim Chmerkovskiy who previously danced with Laila Ali and Spice Girl Mel B announced that he will take a break from the competition citing exhaustion. The new cast of "Dancing" was announced during the season finale of the show's spinoff "Dance War: Bruno vs. Carrie" in a series of bizarre fake newscasts featuring "Dancing" alums Kenny Mayne Jerry Rice and pillow-lipped soap star Lisa Rinna. Mayne a former college football quarterback and ESPN sportscaster was wearing green eye shadow and a tight purple shirt with sparkles while NFL great Rice was sporting in a red silk shirt.

After speaking many of these kids were found grooving on the dance floor for several hours Saturday night often in the center of a large dance circle or in the middle of a group of students posing for a picture. Though the kids stayed until almost midnight hours past a reasonable bedtime they were never fazed by the late time. When dancers weren?t out moving on the dance floor many were found taking a break in the dancer rooms where each participant was provided with a box to keep their belongings. The walls were decorated with neon signs of encouragement including ?You could be missing your favorite song!? and ?Why aren?t you dancing??Erin Noud a first-year biology student and Katie Lubarsky a first-year undeclared student returned to their boxes shortly after 1 a. to grab final touches for their ?70s lounge outfits to fit the ?Sunset Strip? theme. The theme of the event changed every three hours and dancers were encouraged to dress up differently for each theme.
