Israeli police break up Palestinian event signaling trouble for 2009…
International Herald Tribune – Mar 25, 2008
They said two people were briefly detained during a scuffle. “We have the right to practice our culture in Jerusalem. We have the right to dance” said Bassem al-Masri a campaign organizer. Israeli government officials had no comment on next year's planned celebration saying they were unaware of the Arab League's decision. But Israel forbids virtually all Palestinian political activity in the city. Illustrating the challenge the logo competition winner Khaled Hourani could not attend Tuesday's event because he lives in the West Bank and didn't have time to apply for an Israeli permit to enter Jerusalem. His winning logo shows a multicolored 8-point Islamic star alongside a silhouette of Jerusalem's Old City with barbed wire transposed over images of a mosque and a church.

Dancing With The Stars: Week 2 Results
TV Squad – Mar 25, 2008
Shannon and Derek were very excited about their performance. Marissa was in a much better mood after judging this week. Monica urged everyone to go out and give dancing a try. Penn and Steve both took their critiques in stride. Adam started making plans for Julianne’s 21-run and pointed out that she didn’t need to know math because she’s hot. Marlee was ecstatic about her results while Priscilla was already trying to apply the judge’s advice to next week. Mario thanked Carrie Ann for her kind words… It’s not exactly a rivalry for the championship but it should at least be entertaining. After a break Tom and Samantha were back to name two more safe couples. Jason & Edyta will be back next week and they will be joined by Mario & Karina. No real surprises there. They headed out to get thoughts from the contestants on the double elimination. Of course nobody wanted to be eliminated.

… ! The Musical!: Performing Arts Theater and Dance Events on…
Washington Post – Mar 25, 2008
You have to love the unselfconscious way the Baughmans just do it. Forget costumes and set; this is a backers’ audition more or less with each character identified by what’s scrawled on baseball caps. Bud and Doug ask the audience to imagine with them even during intermission (the show runs 85 minutes with only a make-believe break). Charles Johnson who accompanies on electric keyboard dons a vaguely cranky persona; he doesn’t seem pleased to play along with the antics. They’ll be swept up by the intensity of swelling musical numbers bellowed by the questing Gutenberg and a power-mad monk (his nemesis) while grinning with the sensibility that spawned such lines as: “He cradled his dead baby in his illiterate arms.

Jason Taylor scores ‘Dancing’ touchdown
MSNBC – Mar 25, 2008
Monday night?s performance show proved the deferred elimination paid off for some dedicated dancers. For others it just postponed the inevitable. While the first move-makers of the night collectively put their worst feet forward with the mambo and quickstep as the show went on the talent-heavy contenders emerged. The top dancer of the night came as a surprise given last week?s mediocre showing and begged the question ?Could a male athlete win the ballroom battle again?? Bottom of the ballroom barrelAfter last week?s foxtrot Steve Guttenberg proved he was a swell guy though not necessarily much of a dancer.

Drastic Action: Under the Skin
Village Voice – Mar 25, 2008
The dancing lit with subtle drama by Amanda K. Ringger and performed to the domineering rhythms of Annabelle Chvostek’s score is big and thrashing as if induced by a wind or as if the women were trying to shake memories out of their systems—or out of one another. Near the end Geismar introduces a familiar postmodern trope: the performers break out of the dance to talk about its process. Larson says she already misses something they just did and can they do it again? They try to reprise the moment but it becomes something different. Later she wants to skip ahead and sits out the next passage until the others get to the place that interests her. Finally someone maybe Wasik says “Remember when we were dancing not talking? I miss that. ” This device of Geismar’s is a smart way of expressing the uneasiness that the past can bequeath to the future and I was expecting the 50-minute piece to end soon after that oddly poignant remark but after an overly long blackout the dancers reappear in a pile-up that evokes a trash heap or a mass grave wielding canes and shoes and other vaudevillian paraphernalia to belt out a “soft-shoe” number about who’s got the worst pain.
