‘Planet B-Boy’: Break-dancing goes global
San Francisco Chronicle – Mar 27, 2008
Lee chronicles teams from Korea France Japan and the United States competing in “Battle of the Year” finals in Germany. Entrants come from 18 countries and the competition is fierce. Lee says the impetus for the film was his love of break-dancing as a kid in the ’80s when it had a cultural moment. “I saw the movies and was totally mesmerized. I had to break out the cardboard” he says referring to the use of flattened cardboard boxes as practice mats. While he never got past being a “closeted breaker” he says he never lost his love of dance. Then sometime in 1998 through a little Internet browsing Lee found out that b-boying was alive and well.

‘DRUNKEN’ TO EXCESS
New York Post – Mar 27, 2008
Soon the two are making out like giddy teenagers which makes the ground literally shift beneath their feet as a seesaw-like stage literally jostles the performers. That visual effect is repeated several times throughout the evening while such subplots as the burgeoning romance between Frank's buddy Eddie (Barrett Foa) and the girls' friend Bob (Alfredo Narcisco) feel like padding. Forcedly whimsical moments in which the characters suddenly break into song and dance by now feel all too familiar. It's too bad because the playwright shows an entertaining insight into the existential panic triggered by any pending commitment. Describing her response to her guy's proposal Marnie laments "By mistake I said yes. I don't think I was really listening. " Breezily directed by Trip Cullman the play has amusing moments and engaging performances.
