The emotions that are coming out of them are astonishing. Jorma EloIn less than five years Finnish-born Jorma Elo has become a hot property for ballet companies creating works for Boston Ballet American Ballet Theatre Hubbard Street Dance Chicago and others. Elo likes to have a hand in costuming and lighting his works. (Close to Chuck)” danced in Berkeley by American Ballet Theatre in the fall… He is known for his stylistic and emotional versatility his eight works in the San Francisco Ballet repertoire ranging from the anguished “Sea Pictures” to the lighthearted spectacle of “Carousel (A Dance)” performed earlier this season. It’s exciting to see. “The language of danceMore dance-speak: The Walsh piece is “down low close to the earth” explains Sarasota Ballet dancer Simon Mumm?whereas the opener on Friday’s program “Allegro Brillante” by George Balanchine is “up high and stepped out. “Walsh’s piece is a kind of physics lesson in “how one movement leads to another to another on and on” said Mumm?”They are three totally different styles of dance. So it’s a lot all on the same program but wow you know this is wonderful; this is why we dance. “Mumm?23 who appears in all three pieces over the three nights of the final program is one of the young corps de ballet recruits that artistic director Iain Webb brought in when he took over a year ago. Mumm?ad danced in a company led by Webb’s wife Margaret Barbieri in England where his intelligence focus and exuberant stage presence caught the couple’s attention. “Wolfgang” he said is the hardest thing he has been asked to do in a season of challenges… “”To be able to work with this kind of repertoire with people at this level is definitely not something I ever expected here” said Honea a six-year Sarasota Ballet veteran. Last year around this time she was feeling restless. She did a European tour of several Broadway musicals on a summer break from Sarasota Ballet and was thinking of maybe trying that again. “I didn’t have the chance to really do my best work here” she said. “Then I saw what Iain had planned and I thought well maybe I’ll stick around. “After the seasonThe four performances previously announced for the closing weekend sold so well so quickly that a fifth has been added. But there is a bittersweet element to these last rehearsals for the final program of the season.
