KARACHI: Bangladeshi troupe enthrals audience
Pakistan Dawn – Apr 28, 2008
After another group dance that was very well rehearsed and executed came Zubayeer Alf-e-Swani who showed his classical flair by rendering the famous Pahari number “baaghon mein parey jhoole” and a thumri in raag Piloo. But his Bengali song was liked and appreciated more by the audience. Before the break for refreshments a folk dance was presented which was brilliantly choreographed using western beats. The expression on the face of my senior friend retired Brig A. Siddiqui who I am sure has lived some of his glorious years in the former East Pakistan indicated that he was transported back into time good old days when things had not turned acerbic. My own nostalgia was not any different.

" Cook had grown up in Utah the youngest of five in a Mormon family. (The church he says encouraged group activities such as the performing arts but not outside its authority. ) In New York he was soon dancing in Balanchine’s elegant ballets such as Agon and The Four Temperaments. Balanchine he says created works on him but in ballet seasons the roles were given to the star dancer Mikhail Baryshnikov. "Well all Russians want everything" Cook says "especially if you’ve been deprived your whole life… "He was a wonderful director a wonderful theatrical director. I make fun of him mostly because I really did like him and I learned a lot from him although it was very very difficult. " His break with Robbins came in Paris. They were there for two months to stage Glass Pieces. Cook had other commitments in the US he says but Robbins demanded that he stay beyond the agreed period. Robbins "didn’t speak to me for a year" Cook says. When Robbins was invalided at home Cook visited him and attempted a reconciliation.

Teens try tacky for prom alternative
St. Louis Post-Dispatch – Apr 28, 2008
"Most of the teens had either been to their real proms recently or will be going in the coming days. None said they’d be willing to trade the tacky version for the traditional teenage rite of passage but they enjoyed the laid-back atmosphere. "It’s just goofing off" said Haberstroh during a break from dancing. "But don’t get me wrong I still worked on my dance moves the night before. I was on YouTube looking at Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer. A string of exciting events marked the day that began with the landing of one of 10 paragliders who took off from atop the Margalla Hills and landed next to the Saidpur Village where the gala took place. On the short flight along with a senior glider was Mian Murad Ali Shah Kakakhel a 10-year-old whose heroics were applauded by the audience that included officials of the PTDC foreigners women and children. The young Murad had insisted on making the glide and stood before the crowd looking visibly delighted after having landed successfully. Other gliders kept arriving during the course of the show… “However Swabi remains one of the main centres where the sport is pursued” said one of the competitors. Like the dancing horses the archery competition too proved to be a hit with the holiday crowd for whom the organisers had also set up food and drinks stalls. People thronged them during the afternoon prayer break. There was more in store after a pause in activity as announcement was made for the start of the finals of the greyhound race. The competition more like a 100m sprint in athletics had the spectators on the edge of their seats. The skinny dogs streaked across the ground chasing a decoy rabbit but lack of enough space meant they had to put their brakes on fairly quickly. None could catch the ‘rabbit’ though.
