Dance night focuses on country waltz
Roanoke Times – May 18, 2008
The kind of waltzing that often comes to mind is properly called the international waltz which has very strict rules and movements O’Brien said. But others such as country ballroom and Cajun waltz have their own movements that can be just as difficult to learn as the international waltz. “The best way to dance the waltz is to learn the rules and then figure out how to break them” O’Brien said. Tom Joy has been attending Monday night waltzing for about four months and said that there is a lot of things he still has to learn. “I like the gracefulness of it” Joy said. “There is a lot of twirling that I don’t know how to do but my latest goal is to learn. ”
He started learning the waltz many years ago but stopped until about three years ago.

Vishalam Ramanathan coordinator DakshinaChitra adds #8220;After the hectic school routine this is the perfect time for the kids to relax and discover the different avenues of entertainment available to them. Camps allow people from different cultural backgrounds to intermingle co-operate and develop a healthy spirit of camaraderie. #8221;
With the summer break extending for a period of over two months many parents and teenagers feel that it is the right time to develop and pursue long forgotten hobbies. Priyanka a student of Swingers says #8220;For me dance is an art which can make miracles happen. I took on dancing as a one time summer vocation. Today I have completed my first level of the professional course and this summer I would be training for my second level. #8221; This has been the case for many students from Swingers… Camps allow people from different cultural backgrounds to intermingle co-operate and develop a healthy spirit of camaraderie. #8221;

‘Dance’ returns to loosen up summer

Along the way dancers keep doing new things. “Acrobatics have been brought into it a lot more” Lythgoe says. This is a generation that was raised on break dancing street dancing and hip-hop moves. Competitors can spin swirl leap and more. “How do you ever learn that?” Deeley says. “How do you learn to run up a wall?”

Last season brought Hokuto “Hok” Konishi who could do amazing things on his feet or his hands or his head. It brought Dominic Sandoval who had learned his moves in his garage and on the streets.

The New Victory Theater Strives to Present a Range of Entertainment…
New York Times – May 18, 2008
One night watching television in her Edinburgh hotel she saw an American group called Knucklehead Zoo on a hip-hop championship telecast from London. #8220;They had a take on break dancing that I thought would be interesting in New York where it all started#8221; she said. Lloyd tracked the group to Las Vegas and signed it to create and perform #8220;Rewind#8221; a show that puts hip-hop dance moves to musical styles from different decades. Beyond #8220;Rewind#8221; the roster for next season includes a Spanish dance troupe (Noche Flamenca) a Japanese slapstick duo (Gamarjobat which Ms. Lloyd saw in Edinburgh) Moroccan acrobats (Groupe Acrobatique de Tanger) an American circus (Cirque Mechanics) and even.

‘It’s a giant leap’
San Diego Union Tribune – May 18, 2008
It#39;s a giant leap for the organization. It#39;s already known for its diversity and vitality. Next season the number of ArtPower! events is expected to grow from about 25 to nearly 300 with roughly 250 of them held at The Loft which seats 200 to 250 patrons depending on the configuration. The approximately 50 non-Loft events will be divided between Mandeville Auditorium (the campus#39; 782-seat multipurpose hall #8211; often criticized for its acoustics and ambience) La Jolla#39;s exemplary 352-seat Neurosciences Institute and other venues. ArtPower!#39;s venerable Chamber Music Series will move to the university#39;s new Conrad Prebys Music Center when the $53 million facility opens in the fall of 2009 complete with a 400-seat concert hall… #8220;Kids are growing up without the performing arts as part of their experience. So walking into a theater or concert hall feels sort of alien. We want to break down the barriers. #8221;

Performers will often talk to audiences hopping off the stage for the kind of casual interaction that#39;s all but unheard of at conventional concerts. Audiences meanwhile can text their friends about the event as it#39;s happening and if the artists permit take photos with their cell phones. Such behavior may shock concert-goers accustomed to strict decorum. But The Loft doesn#39;t intend to emulate Carnegie Hall.

Take the kids leave the stress
Houston Chronicle – May 18, 2008
The staff will also do all they can to provide one-on-one care when needed for special needs kids she says even logging their food allergies into the computer. Parents get pagers when they leave their kids in the organized programming just in case they are needed. The counselors not only entertain the kids (a special staff orchestrates the activities with Disney characters) but also feed them lunch and dinner if parents need a break. Because of maritime regulations standards of cleanliness are higher than at many daycare centers. “We’re cleaning all the time” says Quinn. “I feel very comfortable that the children are well taken care of” said Christy Tenczar who is from Orlando and was cruising with her husband and 3-year-old son. “It’s hard to get him to leave!”
Other cruise lines (Norwegian and Carnival for example) have programming for children as young as two but Disney Cruise Line operates the only full-scale nursery at sea taking children as young as 12 weeks though at an extra charge so that even new moms and dads can get a reprieve possibly to head to the adult-only pool the adult-only deck to hear some music or dance the spa or Palo the first-rate adult-only restaurant… “We’re cleaning all the time” says Quinn. “I feel very comfortable that the children are well taken care of” said Christy Tenczar who is from Orlando and was cruising with her husband and 3-year-old son. “It’s hard to get him to leave!”

There is even an adult-only beach on Disney’s private Bahamian island Castaway Cay where parents can steal away (cabana massage maybe?) while the kids happily ensconced in organized programming excavate a “whale” skeleton or hunt for buried treasure. Other families are on the family beach with the play structure anchored in the clear turquoise water splashing on giant inner tubes and making giant Mickey Mouse ears in the sand getting as much ice cream and soft drinks as their parents will allow. “The beach is the best part” says Laurie Bosh a Massachusetts mom of two young children who was cruising with her extended family to celebrate her dad’s 60th birthday. There’s just one problem adds Ken Phipps Bosh’s dad.
