CELEBRITY JONES

The marble-floored hall is framed by six white pillars and a massive mantel that showcases an array of trophies cups and signed checkered flags. Elsewhere are glass and wooden plaques two samurai helmet trophies six enormous piston-shaped awardsmdash;all tastefully displayed. And just as he promised in innumerable interviews Helio’s Dancing With the Stars mirror ball sits on its own black-marble podium right between two Indy 500 trophies. Few people could take such open delight in their own accomplishments without seeming full of themselves. But Castroneves comes across as genuine when he talks about his sense of decor: “I look at pictures and say ‘Man that was hard’ or ‘That was a great day. ‘ I remember it like it was yesterday and I’m proud I was in those places… But 25 million viewers trumped the critics and it’s hard to argue that Helio’s off-season pursuit was a distraction when he’s starting on the inside of the second row at the Indy 500 on May 25. “We haven’t seen any evidence on the racetrack that it’s been anything but a positive” says Team Penske president Tim Cindric. “It’s put him in the right frame of mind and taken some of the frustration away from How do I get to break out and take advantage of being successful in racing? He’s finally living that dream. He knows that people know who he is. Winning two Indy 500s didn’t get him that. ” Castroneves’ appearance on DWTS last fall both underscored open-wheel racing’s obscurity problem and served as a small bridge over it. “Every week people were talking about Helio and going ‘What does he do?’” says his older sister Kati who attended every taping.

Diverse Roma culture takes center stage in Prague
Prague Post – May 21, 2008
Musical highlights include Gypsy jazz from Hollandrsquo;s Basily and Francersquo;s Angelo Debarre and the evocative voice of Esma Red?epova from the Euro-Islamic crossroads of Macedonia. Contemporary Czech Roma artists like Gulo ?ar and Bengas will bring their fresh local currency to the mix. And the world-class Andalusian dance troupe Puerto Flamenco is returning having had audiences rushing the stage and screaming with delight last year. ldquo; For us last yearrsquo;s Khamoro festival was like a door to another world and we are grateful to have entered itrdquo; says Puerto Flamenco dancer and spokeswoman Francesca Grima. Her studio is in Sevillersquo;s Triana a legendary district considered by many to be the epicenter of flamenco a dance style that shares much with Roma musical heritage. ldquo; This is a festival that revolves around music and the lifestyle of people in love with the music at its core. rdquo; This core has run right through the center of the Czech landscape since at least the Middle Ages… If they knew part of their music culture it was only from the wine rooms or operettas. Their real music and culture was not very well known at all. rdquo; But as the music grew and spread it helped break down barriers. ldquo; It changed when the first Roma bands and groups television and radio broadcasts and folk festivals began to crop uprdquo; Davidovaacute; says. ldquo; Then some of their songs began to be issued on cassettes and other media. Now during the last 10 years world festivals like Khamoro bring a wider possibility to know Roma music and dance from different countries and groups from all over the world. rdquo; Next weekrsquo;s festival will give Prague audiences an opportunity to see many facets of one of Europersquo;s most lustrous musical diamonds.

That felt kind of anti-climactic really. Ugly Betty season finale tomorrow! And So You Think You Can Dance starts back up. Tom and I are STOKED!Good nightMs… At least the terrible trio are nice about it. TB cries and Paula calls for a group hug. Idol cares! After the commercial break it’s Mark Hayes from New Jersey. Mark can chirp like crickets but he cannot sing. He’s followed by Udi Sampat who dresses up like a pimped out Elvis and does the MC Hammer dance for his co-workers as a way to motivate them. He sings “My Way” and yes he certainly does it.

Since 1928 the ballet has been performed mostly by first year students and this year 53 young men donned tutu’s and dancing shoes to perform to a medley of famous tunes. The lead dancers are second year experts Tasman Gilles and Devon Lotoa who along with the other young men held over 25 practices in preparation for the capping week show.
