At 100, Virginia Chamis is still a source of love
San Diego Union Tribune – May 25, 2008
Now at the 100th birthday bash that started in the early evening and would go well into the night, Virginia danced the first dance with her son, George. She dined on fillet mignon, garlic mashed potatoes, garlic roasted asparagus and an organic spring mix salad. And she still deemed it a hoot watching the young kids dance, as a distant nephew brought down the house with a one-man break dance performance. #8220;I#39;m so happy to be here,#8221; Virginia declared. #8220;I#39;ll stay (here) till this party is over, go home and thank God for a wonderful day. And if some people come over after it#39;s all done, I#39;ll welcome them all in. #8221;

Her door is always open to family.

Catfish experts offer up springtime gameplans
Lufkin Daily News – May 25, 2008
“I hope you’ve got your dancing shoes on. Spillers’ idea of dancing on the deck has little to do with the common two step or dosado. Manning a half dozen baited rods can turn into a break dance when 3-4 reel clickers sound off in unison, especially when there are only two guys on board to handle them all. No sooner had Spillers secured the last rod in its holder than the band began to play loud and clear. One clicker sounded. Then two, three and four. Spillers giggled as I scrambled across the deck in an attempt to tend to all the business at once.

Toronto, NY in B-boy film showdown
Toronto Star – May 25, 2008
The breaks are the rhythmic and percussive sections of songs ? interludes in the main melody. DJs would strip out the breaks and put them in a loop for the dancers. James Brown gets credit for inspiring the dance style. The music still preferred by hardcore breakers is funk, soul or hip hop with a more positive or older vibe. B-boy history is oral and much contested. Some observers claim breakdancing grew out of the hip hop movement. The dancers themselves say hip hop tried to usurp them… Benson Lee points out the effect of the 1983 movie Flashdance on bringing breakdancing into the public realm. His chroniclers insist that beat-boys (no relation to the Doobie Brothers’ song) is the right derivation for b-boys. Most Toronto dancers would say they are break-boys or girls. Breakdancing became associated with inner city ghettos, says Lee. He’s a Korean-American who was born in Toronto and lived here until he was 9. At the University of Hawaii, he got into film and earned his first producer credit on Miss Monday, a dramatic feature that opened at the Sundance Festival. The overriding fantasy figures were gangs and pimps, Lee says of early b-boying.
