Forget dirty dancing’”this class takes its cues from the street

You have to just feel it. ” Week 8Tonight feels like a breeze until the final routine. We’re supposed to end on the floor with this crazy street-style break-dance move: right ear to the ground balanced on our elbows with bum in the air both legs splitting in motion above the floor freezing kicks in time with the music. Eventually I got it. The final class runs over and Brandy Melissa and I stick around to pick Boogie’s and Jarvis’ brains about where we can do this stuff locally in the clubs. We forget to exchange numbers but no matter: we’ll be seeing them again next session.

Hogmanay review: The Dancin – Breathtaking dance displays get the …

The other end of the Grassmarket had participation of an entirely different kind ? American line dancing from The Tumbleweeds who saw me and many others heel-tapping with unashamed exuberance. Flamenco tap salsa tango Scottish country dancing ballroom can-can and breakdancing came thick and fast during the three-hour shindig. n the Dance Base stage was the Breakdance Battle of the Celts. Two breakdance crews from Ireland and Scotland going head-to-head in an energetic display. The undisputed highlight of the night however was the incredible Bollywood Steps. Tightly synchronised choreography copious costume changes and dazzling pyrotechnics ended the night on a breathtaking high. If there was a down-side to the event it was the fact there was not a scrap of information telling you what you could see when leading to a sense of frustration that you were missing out.
