As the annual Shore Dance festival concludes this weekend at Algonquin Arts in Manasquan it will showcase the way break dancing a widely popular dance form is becoming a serious art. Tomorrow the live Dance Theatre from Philadelphia will offer the premiere of “Swift Solos” a multimedia dance-theater piece celebrating the achievements of hip-hop veteran Ken Swift an original member of the pioneering Rock Steady Crew. That figure has been matched £1 for £1 with funds from the government’s Cashback scheme which distributes money recovered from proceeds of crime to youth projects. In collaboration with Active Schools Aberdeen the group will deliver the contemporary dance project which will give young men the opportunity to try out some of the latest street dance and breakdance moves under the expert tutelage of Daniel Aing a specialist breakdancer from Marseille. “Dance has always been a diverse medium and through music such as hip-hop it has become of interest to a whole new audience. What we are trying to do is take that interest to the next level by teaching the skills and techniques which make street dance and breakdancing such an exciting area of performance art. By embracing street culture this project will benefit those who take part and the wider community because it offers a positive outlet for youthful energy and enthusiasm.

Julianne had said earlier that she would be taking a break from “DWTS. ” She had planned to miss season eight too until boyfriend Chuck Wickes was cast as one of the “stars. “Season nine’s extra-long slate of 16 stars demands four additional professionals. ne will be Anna Demidova whom we selected during last season’s contest. The others are familiar faces: Alec Mazo who last appeared in season seven and Louis Van Amstel and Anna Trebunskaya both missing since season six.

Especially as cleverly mounted by director Ray Roderick and his comically adept cast at Bay Street Theatre. An off ff-Broadway sleeper that gave Bernadette Peters her first break in 1966 “Dames” is a takeoff on “42nd Street” (now playing at Hofstra’s John Cranford Adams Playhouse) the story of a kid just off the bus from Nowheresville who gets her chance to “go out there a chorus girl and come back a star” after the diva she replaces actually breaks a leg. In “Dames” the diva is seasick and the ingenue goes out onto the poop deck instead. The Broadway baby wannabe is Ruby played by Kristen Martin with a beguiling innocence that redefines the ingenue role and makes it her own. She has left her suitcase at the bus terminal but an admiring sailor retrieves the luggage and follows her to the theater where a new show starring Mona Kent is opening. The sailor (an eager-to-please Xavier Cano) just happens to be a songwriter too.

The column’s message was that African American teenagers were not allowed access to dance on the nationally televised program. That information is absolutely not true. Host Dick Clark wrote in his book Dick Clark’s Bandstand: "Philadelphia in the mid-’50s was one of the northernmost ’southern’ cities around. It’s no surprise that Bandstand was an exclusively white show from its beginnings in 1952 to 1957. When Tony [Mammarella] and I made the decision to bring in black dancers no one had told us we had to and we didn’t make a big deal out of it.

THE dance company break the Silence with guts and ambition
Channel News Asia
The 10th child in a brood of 11 the Johor-born dancer and choreographer remembers being the only one in his family who was into the arts. “I had to fight for it” he said of his early years pursuing his passion. From being inspired by a dance class at his secondary school in Malaysia to stepping into Singapore as a dancer for the People’s Association at the age of 17 Kuik’s fight for what he loves has since grown through a series of leaps and bounds – literally. Now 36 years old Kuik spent a decade dancing for Singapore Dance Theatre (SDT) in the 1990s. He then had a five-year-stint as the first Asian male principal dancer for Spain’s Compania Nacional De Danza; two years ago he decided to come back to Singapore to forge a new company. This week the 2007 Young Artist Award recipient will have a new arena to conquer: The Esplanade Theatre. His dance company The Human Expression – more commonly known by its garang acronym THE Dance Company – will simultaneously be celebrating its first anniversary and making history as the first local contemporary dance company to perform in the daunting cavernous 2000-seater venue that’s mostly seen big-budget international performances.

Woods was the only player in the top 16 from Thursday to break par in the difficult conditions of the second round. He?s in full flower in control of his ball both when swinging and putting. He has hit 29 of 36 greens in regulation. This is a continuation of the the last two weeks ? both Woods victories ? and of the last three years. Woods is 5-for-12 in Tour starts this year.

In earlier times I was not quite fascinated with dance styles like ldman Boogie which my friend Billy Gunther did so well while we were in sixth form. There were also ‘cat’ and ‘dog’ that were so fascinating but when dancers started behaving as if they had developed rabies I lost interest. Check out the dance forms on television today and a good number of them are plain acrobatics.

Since then I’ve been lucky enough to land a few dance jobs with some interesting choreographers. I’ve created works with my breakdance crew Random Aspekts and a duo called Cypher Dance. I now find myself a successful recipient of a Scottish Arts Council Creative Development Award with which I have been able to produce this piece and am now flying solo. And how does breakin’ fit into your choreography? Whenever I have created movement with hip hop as its basis I assimilate and present it in a mature and intelligent manner. Breaking popping locking and so on is for me often eye candy.

As you are so aware by now Tyler caught his foot on a catwalk in midtwirl during an unscheduled break in the band’s outdoor show at the Blue Chip Campground. Rally reveler Richard DeAgazio of Boston who acted as the celebrity biker’s bodyguard for the annual Legends Ride earlier this week in Sturgis witnessed Tyler’s tumble from backstage at the Blue Chip. “The band was 11 or 12 songs into the show (‘Love in an Elevator’ actually) when the sound blew” DeAgazio told the Track. “So Steven was dancing around trying to entertain the crowd when the toe of his shoe got caught on something on the runway he lost his balance and fell off. “He screamed ‘my back’ but after security came he managed to walk across the stage holding his head and shoulder” DeAgazio said.

Tyler recuperating after fall from stage Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler is recovering from head neck and shoulder injuries suffered when he fell from the stage at a show in South Dakota Wednesday. Tyler 61 was dancing on a catwalk when he suddenly stumbled and fell into the crowd. Tyler was doing the impromptu dance to entertain the crowd after the sound system failed. The audience at South Dakota’s famed Sturgis Motorcycle Rally thought the fall was part of the act until the singer didn’t get up. Tyler who missed several shows last month with a leg problem was airlifted to Rapid City Regional Hospital the largest hospital in western South Dakota. At noon yesterday Joe Perry’s wife Billie told Aerosmith fans via Twitter that Tyler was still hospitalized.

Blank recalls that Hanayagi was brave to break from the traditional roles imposed on Japanese women even artists and dancers back in the 1950s. Her break with tradition started when she begun combining the traditional Japanese dance she had painstakingly learned with the Modern Dance she was becoming familiar with at her college. ?Starting around 1957-1958 she always performed using both classical and modern dance vocabularies. ?It was a program with New York?s Japan Society that finally brought her to the United States were she gave numerous dance workshops and created a lot of movement pieces alone or often in collaboration with others such as fellow immigrant Yoko no. She left New York City in 1969 in order to give birth to and raise her son in Japan according to Blank. Thereafter she returned to the United States numerous times to work on several projects with Robert Wilson among others.

Maya Rudolph (“Saturday Night Live’’) plays a version of herself as Chris Kattan’s best friend back in LA.

His only option at that point was to break dance. Almighty Kay Gee learned to break dance from the original "Mr. Freeze" and "Crip. " Almighty Kay Gee learned to rap in 1974 after he heard Grandmaster Flash and the Furious 3's. During this time Almighty Kay Gee became a member of the all Jamaican "Cheeba Crew.

Tony winner David Rounds starred in the 1982 production which was adapted by Cone from his original play with music by Skip Kennon and lyrics by Ellen Fitzhugh. At the time Wong discovered the play he was 21 new to New York and hoping for his break. That break came six years later with his Broadway debut in ?M Butterfly? for which he won all five major New York theater awards. After that success producers started asking what he’d like to do and the answer was ?Herringbone. ? He did a production in 1992 for the American Music Theatre Festival but he wasn’t satisfied with the result. ?I hurt my voice in a big scary way.

That the world recognizes the genius originality and importance of a beloved artist means a lot to us Merceophiles. Still coming to Cunningham from music I have been struck by how little has been said about Cunningham?s relationship to my art form and by a certain grudging credit accorded Cunningham?s collaborator and greatest artistic influence his companion and the music director of his company.
Related from Inkfeenz: Mother cleared over Brandon death
